Interesting data released by The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show increases in sales of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) by 48% and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) by 18% over 2021 figures. Sales of pure Diesel and Petrol vehicles, MHEV Diesel and PHEV vehicles decrease.
Have PHEV sales reduced as a result of the initial take up from company car drivers due to tax incentives and considered low risk because you still had traditional fuel to fall back on who are now in their 3-4 year replacement cycle or is this due to other factors?
Confidence in BEV has grown. The installation of additional public, retail and workplace charging points must help, and more acceptance that an overnight charge at home can provide sufficient range for the next day’s usage.
It will be interesting to see where the uptake is in 2023, suburban homes with driveways for charging seem the more likely for expansion likely as the majority of town and city streets still require the infrastructure to supply on-street charging.
Sierra CP continues to provide testing equipment for electric motors, electric axles, and batteries, as well as building custom testing facilities.
